Atlas Mountain Weavers: Taznakht Tufted Kilim Rug

This wool rug is a Taznakht (pronounced TAHZ-NOT) tufted kilim, handcrafted in the small village of Ait Warda in Morocco's High Atlas Mountains, just outside Ouarzazate—the gateway to the Sahara. It was woven by a local Berber artisan in a home workshop over the course of five weeks. The wool is locally sourced, hand-washed, and hand-spun, with no added dyes—just pure, natural wool. The design features a grid of hand-knotted tufted squares set against a flatweave base.
